Genesee Valley Farm & Retreat (GVFR), and California Biochar (CB) are located in Plumas County, in the Genesee Valley of the High Sierras, in California's Gold Rush Country.
Genesee is a vortex location that is honored by the local indigenous people as a spiritual site.
The goal of the 130-acre organic farm is to create a contemporary, thriving, cutting-edge earth supporting, and mountain community business. Considering carbon sequestering and Biochar as a future model is an example of the forward thinking of the owner.
Surrounded ranching, GVFR has great valley location with water, and it also has wooded areas perfect for multi-purpose operations. The property is zoned to accommodate recreational and growing food.
The Dixie Fire, of 2021, destroyed much of the wooded property, and the Glamping and recreational Areas. It will require time, and effort, to rebuild those areas. The farm is off-grid, and the heat from the Fire destroyed solar panels, and there was smoke damage to the homes. Approximately 13,000 feet of the owner’s fencing was also destroyed.
Replace damaged, or destroyed fencing. Replace structures, and infrastructure required for the Glamping Campground. Building security for chickens, goats, and crops from predators. Completing a shop area to complete numerous structures, for the owner’s operation. Replace damaged and destroyed solar panels. Building 1-2 Greenhouses and additional Hoop Houses. Securing owner’s property from predators, and burglars. Owner has to grow crops for two years to become eligible for agricultural assistance.
The owner is committed to the project and property. Owner is creative, has boundless energy, and possesses undaunted determination. The property has great soil, water, water rights, and sunshine to be a great growing area. The property is surrounded by incredible scenery, perfect for her Glamping Campground, once it is restored. The Dixie Fire has destroyed other growing areas, and the owner is in a good position to sell her products to Produce Markets, restaurants, and resorts. Genesee Valley is located in beautiful Plumas County where tourism, recreation, and hospitality are economic mainstays. The owner has owned and operated the property since 2019, and she is very familiar with the soil, and seasonal, conditions for her operation. GVFR is the only operation of its kind in Genesee and Indian Valleys. The property has enough potential that the owner could easily consider renting out her property for a variety of operations, including Glamping, organic production, locally grown food, beekeeping, and small poultry and livestock.
